A river-edge zone where the Kosi flows wide and shallow through the forest. Over 200 bird species, crocodiles sunbathing on sandy banks, and the easiest access from Ramnagar — Garjiya is the perfect first-morning add-on safari.
Garjiya Zone follows the eastern edge of Corbett National Park along the banks of the Kosi River. Unlike the deep forest zones, Garjiya offers an open riverside landscape — wide sandy banks, shallow braided channels, and riverine forest that creates a unique ecosystem distinct from the rest of the park.
It is the birdwatcher's zone of choice — the Kosi corridor is one of the most diverse avian habitats in Uttarakhand, with resident and migratory species including kingfishers, eagles, herons, storks, and the rare ibisbill. Mugger crocodiles bask on the sandy banks in winter mornings. Tiger and leopard sightings, while less frequent than in core zones, do occur along the river edge.
